Ambassador Supports Strengthening Relations between Thai and Myanmar Entrepreneurs

On 21 August 2018, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long delivered the opening remarks for the Young Entrepreneur Network Development Program (YEN-D), together with Mr. Adul Chotinisakorn, Director General of the Department of Foreign Trade, Ministry of Commerce, Thailand, at Sedona Hotel Yangon. The YEN-D Program was initiated by the Department of Foreign Trade to connect successful young entrepreneurs in the region, and strengthen their relationships for long term sustainable business collaboration. As such, Ambassador was pleased that the program was well attended by more than 70 Thai entrepreneurs and more than 100 Myanmar entrepreneurs.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador referred to the past series of events hosted by Thailand to promote regional economic cooperation. For example, the 8th ACMECS Summit in June, whereby ACMECS member countries reaffirmed their shared commitment to promote sustainable and inclusive development, based on good neighborliness and friendship. In addition, ACMECS member countries also gave importance to the ACMECS Master Plan 2019 – 2023, which promotes multi-dimensional connectivity and a people-centred approach to development.

Ambassador highlighted Thailand and Myanmar’s natural strategic partnership and Thailand’s preparedness to share knowledge and experiences on economic development. With regard to SMEs, the Royal Thai Government has supported finance and technology to stimulate SMEs’ productivity and innovation. In Myanmar, the Royal Thai Embassy and Thai private sector has supported SMEs by organizing economic trips to survey trade and investment opportunities in various states and regions of Myanmar, and organizing seminars to update the business community on Myanmar’s latest economic policies. This is in line with the government’s policy to expand business opportunities for the Thai private sector, and to develop hand in hand with Thailand’s neighbours.
