Delegation of Inspector Generals from the Office of the Prime Minister of ThailandVisits Myanmar
During 3 – 4 September 2018, Mr. Surasak Riangkrul, Chief of Inspector Generals, led a delegation to Yangon to meet withthe Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon, Thai government agencies in Myanmar, or Team Thailand, the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM) and Thai investors in Myanmar, as well as the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry. The purpose of the visit was to gather informationand recommendations from the aforesaid meetings for policy making, to realize Thailand’s vision of “Thailand: security, prosperity, sustainability, and developed country based on sufficiency economy philosophy.” These recommendations will be presented to the Royal Thai Government for its consideration and future implementation.The delegation perceives Myanmar as an important neighbouring country, and supports the exchange of visits at all levels, as part of Thailand’s overseas mission to promote relations with neighbouring countries and concrete outcomes.

The delegation, Embassy, Team Thailand, and the Thai private sector in Myanmar agreed that Thailand and Myanmar should drive forward multi-dimensional cooperation to strengthen the two countries’ close relations. This includes(1) the regular exchange of visits at all levels; (2)increasingjoint activities between Thai and Myanmar agencies, such as capacity building programs, and the exchange of knowledge and experiences to support joint development; (3) increasing collaboration in finance and banking; (4) improvements in logistics and connectivity between the two countries; and (5) collaboration to strengthen regional networks between governments and businesses. This is in line with the Royal Thai Government’s policy to promote the natural strategic partnership between Thailand and Myanmar, and to move forward together as a strong ASEAN Community. >
