Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony  of Yangon Amata Smart and Eco City Project

On 27 December 2020, H.E. Mrs. Suphatra Srimaitreephithak, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, attended the Groundbreaking Ceremony of Yangon Amata Smart and Eco City Project at the construction site in East Dagon Township, Yangon Region. The ceremony also attended by H.E. U Phyo Min Thein, Chief Minister of Yangon Region Government; H.E. U Tin Maung Tun, Speaker of Yangon Regional Parliament; H.E. U Min Thein, Director-General of the Department of Urban and Housing Development (DUHD), Ministry of Construction of Myanmar; H.E. U Thant Sin Lwin, Director-General of the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration (DICA), Ministry of Investment and Foreign Economic Relations of Myanmar. On this occasion H.E. Mr. Arsa Sarasin, Former His Majesty’s Principal Private Secretary, Former Ambassador, and Chairman of Amata City Co., Ltd., and Mr. Vikrom Kromadit, Chairman of Amata Corporation, Public Co., Ltd. addressed the speeches on video clips to underline the importance of the project. Chief Minister of Yangon Region and Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar also addressed the speeched.

Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar congratulated DUHD, Yangon Regional Government and Amata Corporation PCL and underscored that this project is another good example of the close cooperation between the two countries as “Natural Strategic Partners”. This project will become a vital part of the Myanmar’s development including the expansion of manufacturing sector and urbanization of Yangon Region which will achieve the job-creation and the private sector-led growth ,in the line with the implementation of Myanmar Sustainable Development Plan (MSDP) and Myanmar Investment Promotion Plan (MIPP). It will also support the regional connectivity particularly the East-West Economic Corridor (EWEC) which connects Myanmar, Thailand, Laos and Viet Nam. It will also boost the higher-volume of the regional trade which will be benefited by the implementation of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) which was just signed
in November 2020.

Yangon Amata Smart and Eco City is a joint venture between DUHD and Amata Corporation Public Company Limited. The project intends to build a smart and eco city covers the area of East Dagon Township and South Dago Township with an area of 2000 acres comprising 5 phases of the projects. It is expected to complete in 2026. Yangon Amata Smart and Eco City is promised to attract foreign direct investments around 3.75 billion USD, create more than 33,300 job opportunities for the local community, and at least annually 60 million USD gained from taxation.
