Myanmar cannot meet China’s daily rice demands due to the COVID – 19 restrictions and transport difficulties

China needs 80,000 bags of rice daily, but over 30,000 goes there due to restrictions

China needs 80,000 bags of rice a day, but Myanmar can export just over 30,000 bags through Muse border gate due to the Covid-19 restrictions  and transport difficulties, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

Over 30,000 bags of rice go to China daily via Muse (105th Mile) Trade Zone border China, according to Muse Rice Wholesale Center.

Rice sale will improve this year if Myanmar has better transport and China relaxes its restrictions, said vice chairman Min Thein of the wholesale center.

Currently, China is in need of about 80,000 bags of rice from Myanmar.

About 50 cargo trucks, each of which can carry 640 bags of rice, arrived at the Muse trade zone daily for export to China.

Since early October, Myanmar rice has got good prices. The prices at Muse market are 124 Yuan for a bag of 50 kilo broken rice and 133-136 Yuan for a bag of 50 kilo rice.

The agricultural produce management board issued a statement on October 14 inviting tender proposals to buy monsoon paddy from 76 townships in five regions and states for a basic price of Ks5,2000 per 100 baskets (one basket is equivalent to 46 pounds).
