Myanmar to Build 500-ton Cold Storage Plant for Production of Fish and Shrimp

          The Fisheries Department reports that 2.04 acres of land will be leased under B.O.T system to build a 500-ton cold storage plant for fresh fish and shrimp production. Entrepreneurs / companies are invited to submit tenders for the construction of a 500-ton cold storage plant and lease of 2.04 acres land located at West Gyogone Ward, Insein Township, Yangon Region. Survey No. (2/2), to produce fresh fish and shrimp under the B.O.T system under the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation.

Myanmar earned USD 363.748 million from fishery export during 2020 – 2021 financial year, higher than USD 24.077 million gained in the same period of previous year. Myanmar’s fishery products are annually exported to 45 countries and mainly exported to neighbouring countries via borders.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, corporation between government and the private sector is needed in producing shrimp hatchery in Myanmar, as brine shrimp are being imported from neighboring countries for commercial use of shrimp farming. Agriculture sector accounts for 30 percent of Myanmar’s gross domestic products, and approximately 68 percent of the rural population in Myanmar depends on income from this sector.
