The Myanmar Motor Vehicle Producers and Distributors Association to publish the draft Motor Vehicle Law in September

In order to inform the public about the draft Motor Vehicle Law, the Myanmar Motor Vehicle Producers and Distributors Association will publish a draft of the law by the end of September.

Comments and suggestions from the public will be allowed to revise the draft law, Dr Soe Tun, chairman of the association, said.

“The aim and objective of the law is to regulate motor vehicle related issues and make the roads more convenient for people. When the law is finished, we will invite comments from everyone about the draft,” he said.

Dr Soe Tun said that in Myanmar, there is a general lack of cooperation when forming associations, so the draft law has been delayed. The draft law project started in April.

They intended to make the draft public in July, but there was a lot of misunderstandings and disagreements, said U Khin Maung Kyaw, president of the legislative committee of the association.

Myanmar reduced restrictions on importing vehicles in 2012, but the policies have not been very stable, and have changed 14 times within three years.

Many businesspeople working with car imports have lost money, so the industry has seen major efforts at introducing a new law that will benefit them and the public.
