Kyah State tourism plan solidifies

The Committee for Development for Tourism in Kayah State has finished a detailed plan to improve tourism in Myanmar’s eastern state.

“The survey started in February and lasted for six months. In the survey, we reviewed the training courses for tourism service, communication and transport from all aspects. There is also some information on how to connect the local products for tourists and cultural heritage in the survey,” U AungSoe, president of the Committee for Development of Tourism in Kayah State, told Myanmar Business Today.

The Development Plan for Tourism in Kayah State has been included as a pivotal part of the National Export Strategy (NES), adopted earlier this year to boost the economy.

The plan is drawn as one of the priorities of the NES with the technical support from International Trading Center (ITC) and financial support of $1.9 million from the Netherlands.

“Measures to protect the environment and support hotels will be included in the plan. But the state government is mainly responsible for establishing hotel zones,” U AungSoe said.

Currently, there are only seven hotels with about 1,000 rooms in Kayah state, while only 2,662 tourists visited the state in 2014.
