Myanmar exported more than USD $ 1 million worth products to Bangladesh via Maungdaw border trade

Myanmar has exported more than US$ 1 million worth of export via the Maungdaw border during the month of June according to the Directorate of the Maungdaw Border Trade.

Exports items of marine products were exported from the Maungdaw Border Trade to Bangladesh and as import items, plastic products were imported.

“During the month of June, we earned more than US$ 1 million from export products. Plastic tanks and pipes as the majority of import products. Since July 4, border trade has stopped temporarily,” said an official from the Maungdaw border trade camp.

Maungdaw border trade has stopped from April to May previously and opened in June. While it was opening, boatmen from the vessels stayed at a separate building and they had limited in traveling. Materials imported from Bangladesh and the vessels were sprayed with insecticide regularly.

As a man from Sittwe tested COVID-19 positive, Sittwe border trade was closed and now Maungdaw border trade was closed. There are over 80 people illegally entering from Bangladesh via Maungdaw border and among them, 8 were tested positive. Meanwhile, one close contact also tested positive and now, there are nine COVID-19 positive patients in Maungdaw District.
