Plans are underway to reform the agricultural sector after COVID-19, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock Breeding and Irrigation.

The government allowed Ks 92.61 billion for people aiming to cushion the impacts upon the agricultural sector and to develop socio-economic life of the rural people due to the COVID-19 pandemic , says Dr Aung Thu, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock Breeding and Irrigation.

Thus Myanmar had drawn the COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan-CERP which is a timely intervention by the incumbent government to cushion financial, social and economic impact of COVID-19 pandemic.

“The first project is 100,000 acres of paddy strains. It is a focal point of the Agriculture Department. The project will be implemented across the nation except Chin State. The government will provide the paddy strains and cash assistance. It is like the Joint venture of the agriculture system,” said Dr Aung Thu.

He also said that the second project was the village revolving fund. It would be implemented by the Directorate of Rural Development. The fund would be Ks 42 billion for totaling 1,700 villages across the nation.

As the CERP, the Cash for Work project was implemented in over 2,500 villages across the nation.

The project aims to provide cash assistance by enabling the villagers to work in the village development tasks.
