PTTEP Myanmar requested the Ministry of Electricity and Energy to repair the Kanbauk- Myainggalay pipeline in order to receive the committed amount of gas for domestic supply
PTTEP Myanmar Asset plans to improve the MOGE Kanbauk - Myainggalay pipeline in order to deliver committed amount of 100 MMSCFD of natural gas for domestic supply. PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited, Thailand based petroleum exploration and production company, has been requested from Ministry of Electricity and Energy to repair Kanbauk - Myainggalay pipeline in order to receive the gas proportion that Myanmar is entitled to get from the projects, Mr. Piya Sukhumpanume, General Manager of PTTEP, told media on trip to Zawtika Project, on November 6. -
There are over 30,000 Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) businesses in the Yangon Region running the economy
Yangon Region Chief Minister Phyo Min Thein said that there were over 30,000 businesses of Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) registered as business entities in the Yangon Region and they run the region’s economy. “We compiled the list of these businesses by using digital technology. Over 30,000 businesses are registered in the region and our business is run by these 30,000 business persons. The number of the MSMEs may be more than that,” CM Phyo Min Thein said. The Chief Minister was speaking at the 7th Local Products of MSMEs Trade Fair and Contest that was held at Fortune Plaza in Thaketa Township, Yangon on 16 November. -
Singapore Association of Myanmar (SAM) organized the first SAM Business Summit in Myanmar to discuss and share views on economic, legal and specific industry sectors of Myanmar
Singapore Association of Myanmar organized inaugural SAM Business Summit for the first time in Myanmar. Business leaders from Singapore and local entrepreneurs gathered at the Summit held in Yangon on Thursday to discuss and share their views on economic, legal and specific industry sectors of Myanmar. The Summit aims at supporting the business community to be kept up-to-date with the latest regulations, developments in various business sectors as well as business trends such as the digital economy. President, Singapore Association of Myanmar, Sims Teo said “To organize a business summit, to bring Singaporeans closer to the business committee is one of the objectives of our association…. Myanmar has a great potential to provide many diversify opportunities for our Singapore business people. Business Summit like this of course even more direct engagement to encourage Singapore Investors to come here.” -
PTTEP Myanmar is interested to expand into new Myanmar gas fields when government authorities officially invite international tenders for up to 31 oil and gas exploration fields in early 2019
With fresh oil and gas reserves at Myanmar’s offshore blocks now approved for commercial activities, the Ministry of Energy and Electricity (MOEE) will invite international tenders for up to 31 oil and gas exploration fields in early 2019. The last round of exploration and production tenders was held under the former government in 2014. The aim is to rejuvenate gas production and exports as well as foreign direct investments (FDI). Last year, Myanmar received more than US$3 billion for gas exports, according to the Ministry of Commerce. Over the same period, FDI decreased to US$900 million to US$5.8 billion due to a lack of investments in the oil and gas sector. This year though, around 20 oil majors including Thailand’s PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Ltd (PTTEP), Italy’s ENI, South Korea’s Daewoo and Australia’s Woodside will commence seismic surveys and exploratory drilling in several onshore and offshore blocks. -
Bel-lin power plant will start distributing electricity into the national power grid in February 2019 to benefit local people
Bel-lin Power Plant, which was built by Powergen Kyaukse Company Limited, will start distributing electricity into the national power grid in February 2019. The Ministry of Electricity and Powergen Kyaukse Company Limited signed a power purchase agreement on November 6 in Naypyidaw. “As the plant will connect to national power grid, it will benefit local people as well as the rest of the country.’’said U Win Khiang, Union Minister of the Ministry of Electricity and Energy. The plant is located in Sint Gaing Township, Kyaukse District in Mandalay Region, and developed by Powergen Kyaukse Company Limited, a partnership between a local and foreign company under Independent Power Producer (IPP) and Build Operate Own (BOO) program, in May 2018. -
According to the survey of Singapore Business Federation (SBF), Singaporean companies are planning to expand into ASEAN member countries including Myanmar in the next two years, with its growth potential and overall investment climate
Singapore companies have big plans to expand in ASEAN over the next two years and Myanmar, with its growth potential and overall investment climate, is on the cards for many, according to a recent survey by the Singapore Business Federation (SBF). The survey, conducted from December 2017 to March 2018, collected views from 1036 Singapore companies across all major industries. Of those surveyed, 70 percent have overseas operations, of which 75pc is in ASEAN. Currently, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam and the Philippines are the top five ASEAN sources of revenue for most Singapore firms. Over the next two years though, Singapore companies have identified Myanmar as one of the top five priority markets to enter, with 26pc of those with plans to expand in ASEAN targeting expansion in Myanmar. -
Myanmar shoppers spend USD $ 90,000 worth of goods in the first hour of Alibaba Group’s “11.11” of its first-ever online sale aimed at Myanmar shoppers
YANGON—The local unit of Chinese e-commerce giant Alibaba Group sold over $90,000 worth of goods in the first hour of its first-ever online sale aimed at Myanmar shoppers on Sunday. The local version of Alibaba’s global “11.11” online sale was conducted by Myanmar’s biggest online shopping platform, SHOP.com.mm. SHOP said in a statement that over 1,500 orders were placed in the first hour, most of them via mobile phones. The company offered discounts on 50,000 items, and over 150,000 users accessed its shopping app. Major brands such as Samsung, Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, Ponds, Vaseline, ERKE, Adidas, Nike, Maybelline were discounted by up to 90 percent. The company also offered additional discounts of up to 22 percent for holders of VISA, CB VISA and AGD VISA cards. The site also offered a 0-percent commission to sellers. -
Most of the investors in garment sector are exporting their products to European Union market despite concerns about the review of GSP by European Union
Most of the investors in garment sector are exporting their products to European Union (EU) market and despite concerns about the review of Generalised scheme of preferences (GSP) granted by the EU, investments are not lowering, said Director General Aung Naing Oo of the Directorate of Investment and Companies Administration (DICA). “Investors from some countries came to make investments in the garment sector of Myanmar as Myanmar has been granted GSP privilege by EU. Over half of garment products are exported to the EU market. They were intended to make investments in Myanmar to export their products to the EU market. Some foreign investors are concerned about the review of GSP privilege. They are worried that their products will not be exported to the EU market if the GSP privilege is withdrawn,” said the Director General. -
UK’s Department of International Development (DFID) will invest around USD $ 2 million on a development scheme targeting small businesses in Myanmar
The UK’s Department for International Development (DFID) will invest around US$2 million to help Myanmar develop a platform to finance small businesses, reducing the inequalities between SMEs and larger players. The DaNa Facility, a DFID-funded programme, will invest over $1.9 million in the “Shwe Lan” project which aims to initially provide access to working capital for 300 micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the country which employ the poor and women, with at least 30pc of those businesses, i.e. 90 companies, female-owned. The project will be managed by Swiss-based Seedstars and Myanmar firm Thura Swiss. -
Myanmar will build the road connecting Thai- Myanmar border to Dawei Special Economic Zone (SEZ) by using the loans from Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Agency (NEDA)
Myanmar will build a road connecting the Thai-Myanmar border to the Dawei Special Economic Zone using loans from Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA). The Ministry of Construction, Myanmar, and Neighboring Countries Economic Development Cooperation Agency (NEDA) signed the Record of Discussion (ROD) agreement for the new road earlier this year. “ROD is about technical assistance for Survey and Detailed Design Project for the road to be built connecting the Thai-Myanmar border and Dawei’s SEZ,’’said U Han Zaw, Union Minister of the Ministry of Construction.
