The 9th JCC meeting for the Comprehensive Development in the Dawei Special Economic Zone (DSEZ) and its related project areas was held in Nay Pyi Taw

9th Myanmar-Thailand Joint Coordinating Committee (JCC) Meeting for the Comprehensive Development in the Dawei Special Economic Zone (DSEZ) and its related project areas took place in Nay Pyi Taw on Thursday.

Both sides discussed on the mutual benefits of the people of the two countries relating to the implementation of Dawei Special Economic Zone.

Myanmar's current initiatives to move the remaining initial phase projects forward were also discussed at the meeting. It is learnt that Dawei SEZ Full Phase Development will be initiative in parallel with the initial phase, and further discussions will be made with existing Joint Task Force.

Myanmar and Thailand recognized the progress of two-lane roads construction and appreciate for the collaboration on the effort of the Ministry of Construction and Neighbouring Countries Economic Development Agency (NEDA) of Thailand.

Minister, Ministry of Transport (Thailand), H.E. Saksayam Chidehob said “This is a strategic project and we will continue to cooperate in implementing the project. Thailand prioritizes for successful implementation of Dawei Special Economic Zone which has promising future for progress. We will provide low interest loan for construction of road connecting Phu Nam Ron / Htee Khee border crossing to the entrance of Deep Sea Port.”

The meeting also discussed to invite developer and investor from various interesting countries.

Meanwhile, Myanmar side also explained the Myanmar Power Distribution Plan at Dawei SEZ.

Deputy Minister, Ministry of Electricity and Energy, Dr. Tun Naing said “The Ministry of Electricity and Energy tried to received low interest loan from the contribution of Asian Development Bank. Now, we are about to connect with the National Grid through Ye-Dawei area.”

The meeting also discussed the possibility of Joint High-level Committee (JHC) Meeting in the near future, and next JCC Meeting is scheduled to be held in Thailand at convenient time for both sides.
