Royal Thai Embassy Invites Thai SMEs to Invest in Myanmar
On 28 March 2018, Mr. Narong Boonsatheanwong, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Thai Embassy, together with Mr. PakainayLeng-Ee, Minister Counsellor for Commercial Affairs, and Miss WalikarApayasiri, Counsellor for Commercial Affairs, receivedand briefed a business delegation of 25 Thai SMEs, which were surveying investmentopportunities in Myanmar with Me-Idea Studio’s “SME See ASEAN” TV program. Mr. Narong emphasized that the Royal Thai Government prioritizes relations with neighbouring countries to promote peaceful borders, joint development, and the exchange of peoples. Hespoke of the government’s policy to open more border checkpoints with the aim to facilitate Thai companies and Thai investors in doing business in Myanmar. For example, Thailand and Myanmar are cooperating on the development of the Dawei Special Economic Zone (DSEZ), which is part of the Southern Economic Corridor. The Myanmar Parliament recently approvedfor the Myanmar Government to accept a loan from the Thai Government, to construct the two lane road from the DSEZ to the Thai-Myanmar borderat the permanent border checkpoint Phu Nam Rom, Kanchanaburi Province, and HteeKee. In addition, he invited Thai SMEs to not only invest in Myanmar, but to also implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in their area of investment. The Office of Commercial Affairs briefed the delegation on Myanmar’s economic reforms, sectors with high investment potential, such as consumer products, lifestyle products, and services, as well as investment opportunities, and related trade laws of Myanmar. -
Ambassador Delivers Opening Remarks at the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM)’s Chamber Connect 2 Event
On 21 March 2018, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long delivered the opening remarks at the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM)’s Chamber Connect 2 with the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCM), Myanmar, at the Embassy. Ambassador recommended that TBAM reach out to other foreign chambers in Myanmar, to exchange ideas and experiences, and to serve each other’s missing links and be part of each other’s supply chain. He spoke of Thailand and Japan’s strong business relations and opportunities for business partnerships, as well as joint corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in Myanmar. At the same time, he also acknowledged Japan’s important role in Asia, especially in supporting regional connectivity, which Thailand is also promoting in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, ASEAN, BIMSTEC, and APEC. The meeting exchanged information on the structure of TBAM and JCCM, Thai and Japanese companies in Myanmar, Thailand’s policy to serve as international headquarters (IHQ) and international trading centers (ITC), as well as developments in Thilawa Special Economic Zone. The Thai side expressed its readiness to share knowledge and experiences on border trade, and to collaborate with Japan on (1) manufacturing; (2) tourism; (3) agriculture, fisheries, and food processing; (4) telecommunications and IT; (5) labour intensive industries; and (6) logistics and banking in Myanmar. -
Ambassador Gives Interview to Myanmar Business Partners Magazine
On 21 March 2018, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long gave an interview to Myanmar Business Partners magazine on the excellent state of Thai-Myanmar relations. In particular, he spoke of Myanmar’s importance to Thailand as a natural strategic partner and the regular exchange of high-level visits. This year, Thailand and Myanmar’s relationship has reached another milestone as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of the establishment of Thailand-Myanmar diplomatic relations. The Royal Thai Embassy is organizing a variety of events to celebrate this auspicious occasion, including masked dance performances, a Thai film festival, painting exhibition with leading artists from both sides, and a Thai food festival. The Embassy will alsocontinue its policy to encourage the large Thai business community in Myanmar to implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities to support health, education, capacity building, and sustainable development in Myanmar. -
Embassy Joins Commemoration of U Thant’s 109th Birth Anniversary
On 28 January 2018, Ms. WirakaMoodhitaporn, Minister Counsellor, Royal Thai Embassy, Yangon, attended the 2018 U Thant Memorial Lecture to commemorate U Thant’s 109th birth anniversary. Dr. NoeleenHeyzer, Former United Nations Under Secretary-General, and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), gave an inspiring lecture on “Leadership for Peace and Shared Prosperity” in reminiscence of U Thant’s advocacy for peace, tolerance for diversity, and sustainable development, and major achievements as the first UN Secretary General from Asia. The Embassy joins U Thant House and Myanmar people in commemorating the 109th birth anniversary of this great statesman. -
Embassy Joins Myanmar Steel Association in Celebrating First Anniversary
On 27 January 2018, Ms. WirakaMoodhitaporn, Minister Counsellor, Royal Thai Embassy,Yangon, joined the 1st Anniversary Celebration of the Myanmar Steel Association, which is one of more than 70 associations affiliated to the Union of Myanmar Federation of Chambers of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI). The event was also attended by the Union Minister of Industry, the Union Minister of Electricity and Energy, the Yangon Region Chief Minister, and the President of UMFCCI. The Embassy congratulates the Myanmar Steel Association on its first anniversary and UMFCCI on its continued growth, and wishes UMFCCI every success in its future endeavours. -
Embassy Highlights Investment Opportunities in Electricity Sector to Business Delegation
On 17 January 2018,Mr. Narong Boonsatheanwong, Minister and Deputy Chief of Mission of the Royal Thai Embassy, together with the Thai Commercial Affairs Office in Yangon, received Mr. PanyaVudthiprajak, Chairman of the Kanchanaburi Chamber of Commerce, and delegation. The Ministersummarized Myanmar’s electricity policyand investment trends in the electricity sector. He also highlighted the importance of the electricity business for Myanmar’s sustainable economic developmentand emphasized the high potential of Myanmar’s neighbouring states to Thailand for investment in energy, especially in hydropower. Lastly, he encouraged Thai investors to implement good business practices in Myanmar, to take consideration of their project’s environmental impact, and to implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities that will benefit local communities. -
Ambassador Updates Thai Business Delegation on Thai-Myanmar Relations
On 16 January 2018, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long, together with the Thai Commercial Affairs Office in Yangon and the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM), received Mr. Kalin Sarasin, Chairman of the Thai Chamber of Commerce and Board of Trade, Thailand, and delegation. The Thai Ambassador provided an overview of Thai-Myanmar relations, including the Royal Thai Government’s policy towards neighboring countries as a whole, and towards Myanmar in particular. He also encouraged Thai investors to implement corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in their area of investment, to share experiences in developing the finance sector, and to strengthen networks with private sector from other countries to jointly support Myanmar’s economic development. -

Ambassador Delivers Opening Address at Kayin State Investment Fair
On 24 November 2017, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long delivered the opening address at the Kayin State Investment Fair in Hpa-An, Kayin State, organized by the Myanmar Investment Commission and the Japan International Cooperation Agency. Ambassador emphasized the importance that the Royal Thai Government gives to joint development of border areas with neighboring countries, which includes facilitating and promoting trade and investment, as well as people-to-people contacts and tourism promotion. Ambassador also highlighted the importance of the Mae Sot - Myawaddy International checkpoint, and further discussions between Thai and Myanmar agencies to consider increased facilitation for border crossings. Finally, he confirmed the readiness and interest of the Thai private sector to invest in Kayin State and to collaborate with their Myanmar counterparts on the country’s development. -
Ambassador leads Thai business delegation to Kayin State
On 23 November 2017, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long led a delegation of 16 Thai businessmen to pay a courtesy call on Her Excellency Daw Nang Khin Htwe Myint, Chief Minister of Kayin State, and U Saw Han Aye, Chairman of Kayin State Chamber of Commerce and Industry, in Kayin State’s capital of Hpa-An. The purpose of the visit was to learn of Kayin State Government’s economic policy and prioritized sectors, trade and investment opportunities for the Thai private sector, and to open doors for the Thai private sector to present their products and services.
