Ambassador Delivers Opening Remarks at the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM)’s Chamber Connect 2 Event

On 21 March 2018, Ambassador Jukr Boon-Long delivered the opening remarks at the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM)’s Chamber Connect 2 with the Japan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCM), Myanmar, at the Embassy. Ambassador recommended that TBAM reach out to other foreign chambers in Myanmar, to exchange ideas and experiences, and to serve each other’s missing links and be part of each other’s supply chain. He spoke of Thailand and Japan’s strong business relations and opportunities for business partnerships, as well as joint corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities in Myanmar. At the same time, he also acknowledged Japan’s important role in Asia, especially in supporting regional connectivity, which Thailand is also promoting in the Greater Mekong Sub-region, ASEAN, BIMSTEC, and APEC. The meeting exchanged information on the structure of TBAM and JCCM, Thai and Japanese companies in Myanmar, Thailand’s policy to serve as international headquarters (IHQ) and international trading centers (ITC), as well as developments in Thilawa Special Economic Zone. The Thai side expressed its readiness to share knowledge and experiences on border trade, and to collaborate with Japan on (1) manufacturing; (2) tourism; (3) agriculture, fisheries, and food processing; (4) telecommunications and IT; (5) labour intensive industries; and (6) logistics and banking in Myanmar.
