Royal Thai Embassy supports information exchange among foreign chambers of commerce in Myanmar

On 4 July 2016, H.E. Mr. Jukr Boon-long, Ambassador of Thailand to Myanmar, delivered the opening remarks at the “Chamber Connect 1” meeting organized by the Thai Business Association of Myanmar (TBAM) at the Royal Thai Embassy in Yangon. The purpose of the meeting was to exchange information and discuss potential areas for collaboration between TBAM and foreign chambers of commerce in Myanmar. “Chamber Connect 1” included participants from            4 foreign chambers: the British Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, the French Myanmar Chamber of Commerce & Industry, the European Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar, and the American Chamber of Commerce in Myanmar.

In his opening remarks, Ambassador Boon-Long emphasized the importance of collaboration between TBAM and foreign chambers in Myanmar to strengthen each other’s knowledge, develop the capabilities of their members, and synergize Myanmar’s collaboration with foreign investors for economic development. As a close neighbouring country to Myanmar, Thailand has consistently developed connectivity in many aspects between the two countries. For this reason, Thailand is an important partner in completing the missing link in the supply chain of other countries which plan to invest in Myanmar. Moreover, Thailand has extensive experience in investment sectors promoted by the Myanmar government, such as construction, logistics, tourism, and energy.

“Chamber Connect 1” was a good initiative to create opportunities for collaboration between TBAM and foreign chambers in Myanmar to strengthen each other’s investment and business capabilities. The meeting agreed that every three months, the foreign chambers would take turns in hosting a meeting, followed by a networking event, and that TBAM would be the first host. After the successful “Chamber Connect 1” meeting, the Royal Thai Embassy hosted a reception for all participants to nurture relationships and collaboration between the Thai and foreign businessmen in Myanmar.
