New Yangon Development Company (NYDC) plans to hold a talk to seek reliable facts on the much criticized Yangon new city project

New Yangon Development Company (NYDC) has planned to hold a talk about NYDC Town Hall with the intention of seeking strong evidences for Yangon New City Project as China Communication Construction Company Limited (CCCC), a tender winning company, is facing many questions as to whether or not there is transparency, said Thein Wai (a) Serge Pun, the CEO of the NYDC.  

 “We hear the public opinions on the new town plan through social networks and media ever since the NYDC started setting up the NYDC. Most of the people are attracted to this project. Some people supported the project but some were against it. Criticisms went to Yangon regional government and the NYDC. 

“So many questions arose—does the government need to do business? Can’t a ministry or a committee carry out this new town project? Will Yangon new city project become money-wasting project without seeking profits? Why doesn’t the government do better for Yangon? Is there transparency in tender option process? Is there transparency in the authorized permission of the Chinese company to set out to implement the first phase of the new town plan, a challenge of the NYDC?” Thein Wai (a) Serge Pun, the CEO of the NYDC said.

The most important thing in the implementation of a project or a destination is to have an effective communication network linking with all those concerning the project. If so, different opinions will accumulate and we will get an acceptable solution, Thein Wai (a) Serge Pun said.

It will be sure to reach the destination if we negotiate different views depending on mutual respect. I believe that a better result would appear if an efficient policy was able to be laid down resulting from transparent discussions about different opinions on the project beneficial to the public like Yangon new city project. For that reason, the NYDC will hold the first talk of NYDC Town Hall on June 23 in order to present different views and suggestions for Yangon new city project. We hope that precise facts and figures will be available from the talk instead of listening to false news and predictions about Yangon new city project, Thein Wai (a) Serge Pun said.

Those participating in the talk on NYDC Town Hall will be Thein Wai (a) Serge Pun from the New Yangon Development Company (NYDC), Khaing Win from Sandhi Governance Institute, Ye Myat Thu from Mandalay City Development Committee and Managing Director Zeya Thu of the Voice Weekly Journal. Aung Chit Khin, founder of Strategy First Institute will act as a moderator.

Different people always have different views on matters relating to rules and regulations, laws and policies and so on. We must try for socio-economic development of the citizens, a destiny for all citizens after seeking a basic solution acceptable to all the people while negotiating different opinions, Thein Wai (a) Serge Pun said.
