General Electric (GE)'s gas turbine upgrades, finishing by October, will bring in an additional 30 megawatt (MW) to the national grid

The planned upgrades of two gas turbines in Yangon can be finished between September and October, bringing in an additional 30 megawatts (MW) to the national grid, Andrew Lee, chief country representative of General Electric, told Myanmar Business Today.

However, he said the paper works regarding the project are yet to be finished, so giving an exact timeline would be difficult.

“The plans are not finished yet. We can only provide general details as we are still negotiating with the government,” he said.

GE and Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise (MEPE) made agreements for the repair and maintenance of power plants and upgrading gas turbines late last year.

“GE will cooperate with the companies who construct power plants and produce power. We will provide maintenance and repair services,” Lee added.

Currently, the company is cooperating with Singapore’s Sembcorp while Myanmar government is providing land and fuel. GE is also providing capacity building training for government staff.
