Myeik authorities are planning to build one stop service pier in Myeik to check marine products directly on fishing vessels

The Myeik authorities is planning to build a one-stop service pier in Myeik to check marine products, such as fish and prawns, meant for exports. As part of the service, teams are expected to inspect the products directly on fishing vessels. A meeting to discuss the matter was held on 25 November.
“It would be more efficient to inspect marine products meant for exports at the pier. The pier is essential to the region,” said Tanintharyi Region Government Planning and Finance Minister U Phyo Win Tun at the meeting.
Myeik district’s Fisheries Department Head, U Than Lwin, discussed the possible difficulties that may arise when inspection teams conduct checks on board the fishing vessels as part of the one-stop services.
The region’s Port Officer U Myat Soe Win presented the situations on use of both government and private piers.
Afterwards, Minister U Phyo Win Tun, Myeik District Administrator U Aung Kayw Oo, and officials from concerned departments toured the site on which the pier will be constructed. The pier will be constructed using funds allotted by the Regional Goverment. Upon completion, it is expected to help save time, check volume of low quality exports, and contribute to the development of Myeik region’s marine exports through systematic checks. Myeik has a thriving aquatic industry. The region exports over 8,000 tons of marine products annually. According to the FOB supervision committee, marine exports from the region fetch over US$10 million every year. Entrepreneurs from Myeik are operating their businesses with over 1,100 offshore fishing vessels and 5,200 inshore fishing vessels.
