Parami Energy Group of Companies launched Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) distribution service for home use in order to reduce electricity usage and reliance on firewood which is contributing to deforestation

Parami Energy Group of Companies launched a liquified petroleum gas (LPG) distribution service for home use on December 12.

The company, which has been importing and selling LPG since 2017, will now directly sell LPG in cylinders of various sizes, U Pyae Wa Tun, CEO of the company, said.

Currently, Parami Group of Companies will distribute LPG gas to 150,000 households and has built a facility where they will store the LPG cylinders.

“In the market, LPG cylinders are distributed directly to the households by filling small cylinders of liquified gas from bigger ones. If the number of households are just a small amount, that is fine. But, if the number of households reaches millions, then we will need to use machines,” he added.

Parami Energy is planning to choose female sale representatives from 33 townships in Yangon Region under Parami Champion Program in order to sell LPG directly to households. At the moment, the company is selling LPG to restaurants, hotels and industries, according to Ko Zaw Zaw Aung, Sale Manager of the company.

“Looking at the aged LPG cylinders in the markets, some are about 20 to 30 years old. There are also no new ones being supplied in the market,’’ he said.

Parami has imported over 100,000 cylinders that have been made by using Automatic Carousel Machines by Sahamitr Pressure Container Public Company.

They also have plans to invest an additional $25 million for the sector if the demand of LPG increases in the next three years.

According to the statement from Parami, 5,000-6,000 tons of LPG are imported to Myanmar from Thailand every month reaching around 70,000 tons annually. However, only 5 percent of Myanmar households use LPG while almost 95 percent of households in Thailand, India and Indonesia are using LPG.

The Ministry of Electricity and Energy also plan to provide LPG to over 150,000 households by 2020 with the aim of reducing electricity usage and reliance on firewood which is contributing to deforestation.
