Manaung Public Company proposed the plans to implement ecotourism on Manaung Island to Rakhine State Government for approval

A local company named Manaung Public Company has presented plans to the Rakhine State Government to implement ecotourism on Manaung Island, according to the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism.

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has laid out the master plan for the project. They first sent the plans to the Rakhine State Government for approval. Once approved they will be presented to the Rakhine State Parliament.

“We have laid out and presented the master plan to the Rakhine State Government. When the state government and the parliament approve it, we will present it to the union. We cannot say when we will start and finish the project as we need to wait for the approval,” U Ye Aung More, Director of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism (Rakhine State), told Myanmar Business Today.

The ministry said they will make sure that the beach, its natural beauty, and livelihood of the local residents are fully protected. There is enough land for development of the region, and specific land has already been chosen for a hotel and additional land for future development.

The authorities have appropriated a total of 26,141 acres of land for the project: 1,369 acres are for village development, 9,364 acres are set aside for farming, 409 acres are for public space such as beaches, 12,649 acres are reserved as forest area, 1,750 acres are for a hotel with mountain views, and another 600 acres are for another a nearby hotel.

Ecotourism has become popular around the world, and authorities are planning to implement ecotourism on Manaung Island in Rakhine State. They hope to further develop the state through tourism by offering amazing views and a look into the local lifestyle, moreover tourism will create jobs for local people.

Myanmar has already developed ecotourism in five locations in the northern part of the country, another two locations in the eastern part of the country, five areas in the central and western part of the country, and nine areas in the southern part of the country. They  include sanctuaries, elephant camps, national forest gardens, valleys and hills, as well as UNESCO’s heritage sites.
