Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exports Association launched the new e-commerce platform with mobile market trucks in Yangon outskirts

Myanmar Fruit, Flower and Vegetable Producers and Exporters Association (MFVP) has launched e-commerce platform and also, sell the fruits and vegetables with mobile market trucks in the suburban townships of Yangon, MFVP Secretary U Kyaw Thu told the Global New Light of Myanmar yesterday.
The fruits and vegetable growers in Naungtayar, Pindaya and Aungban towns in southern Shan State are facing financial hardships amid coronavirus outbreak. Those local products will be sold through this platform.
“Yangon people are the main consumers. During the coronavirus pandemic, people are staying at home and so, we are arranging the mobile market trucks to sell them in the townships. This plan will bring fair trade at a cheaper rate for the vendors as well as the consumers as it is direct trade from the growers,” he said.
The cabbage growers in Naungtayar town, southern Shan State have been suffering losses as the market ruined. Earlier, the cabbages were sent to Thirimingala market in Yangon. Now, the coronavirus shocks shut down the hotels and restaurants and ruined the market.
The cabbage price drastically plunged to K100 from K1,000 compared to last year.
In the coming months, Napa cabbage, pineapple and tomatoes are going to be harvested and market preparation is crucial, he continued.
Three or four market trucks will go around the crowded suburban townships.
Additionally, people can buy the vegetables online through e-commerce mobile application which have been developed by MFVP.
People can start using the application on 20 May. They can choose two options to collect their order; self-pick-up or delivery service, he added.
The sellers can display their products through application, describing price, quality and quantity and product image. The consumers can buy direct online.
Those interested buyers can download application and log in free with Facebook account or google or phone number. The sellers must be a member of MFVP. Those online retailers do not need to pay any charges.
Later, that online platform will be expanded for the wholesale and export markets, MFVP stated. On 18 May, under the guidance of MFVP, 12-wheel truck of cabbage were distributed free of charge each in Thingyangyun and South Dagon townships.
The second batch of free distribution is planned to proceed in East Dagon and Hlinethaya townships.
The civil society organizations (CSOs) contributed transportation charges and the CSOs and well-wishers are planning to return the contributions given by the people to remedy the loss of the growers hit hard by the coronavirus.
