United States of America (US) has offered in providing technical assistance to boost investments in Myanmar

The United States has offered to provide technical assistance to help boost investments into Myanmar during the meeting between the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) and the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Economic Relations.

U Thaung Tun, Union Minister of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Economic Relations, received Mr. Adam Boehler, Chief Executive Officer of the DFC, on October 27.

The U.S. delegates said that the U.S. acknowledged the efforts of Myanmar approving international investments into the countries in line with international standards and discussed the possible cooperation in the energy sector, telecommunication sector, tourism sector, and natural gas extraction sector.

Moreover, the delegate also expressed the commitments to provide technical assistance to Myanmar to help the country increased investments as well as for the development of human resources and market access for SMEs in Myanmar.

U Thaung Tun explained the improvement in foreign direct investments into the country despite the existing setbacks caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, and how the country is implementing COVID-19 Economic Relief Plan and COVID-19 Economic Recovery and Reform Plan.

Moreover, he said the country will welcome if the U.S. invests in energy, agriculture, and infrastructure development in Myanmar.

DFC is a U.S financial institution formed in 2019 under the Better Utilization of Investments Leading to Development Act (BUILD).

The institution is primarily responsible for providing and facilitating the financing of private development projects in lower- and middle-income countries.
