NLD Economic Committee strengthens itself by appointing an economic expert and certified public accountant as two new members

The Economic Committee for the National League for Democracy (NLD) government has recruited two additional members. They are economic expert Dr. Aung Ko Ko and Certified Public Accountant U Win Tin.

The appointments, which are expected to reinforce the NLD Economic Committee, come shortly after State Counsellor Daw Aung Sang Suu Kyi said she would take a direct and active role in handling state economic affairs.

The two new appointees were added under a resolution set at the Central Executive Committee meeting on August 20. They will fill three current vacancies, one committee member said.

The positions were made vacant when U Bo Bo Nge, a former member of the NLD Economic Committee, was appointed as Vice Governor of the Central Bank of Myanmar, while U Htay Win, another former member, was appointed as the Ayeyarwady Regional Minister for Planning and Finance. The third member has passed away, committee member U Ye Min Oo said.

“Dr. Aung Ko Ko is well-versed in economic development and has been involved in discussions with local and international experts. Meanwhile, U Win Tin is an accountant who knows about financial matters and statistics and has also worked in the Auditor’s General Office. They were recruited for their expertise in these areas,” U Ye Min Oo said.

“I have participated in discussions on the economy and involved in developing solutions on economic issues. I think I will be expected to perform the same tasks in the NLD Economic Committee. My exact duties, which will be assigned, are not known yet.” Dr. Aung Ko Ko said.

The current members of the NLD Economic Committee are chair U Hanthar Myint, U Myo Myint, U Soe Win, U Lay Nyunt, Dr. Kyaw Soe, U San Thein, U Aye Lwin and U Ye Min Oo. Its secretary is U Min Khin.
