Myanmar Rice Federation and Myanmar Agribusiness Public Cooperation made efforts to develop the agriculture sector in northern Rakhine State

Myanmar Rice Federation and Myanmar Agribusiness Public Cooperation will undertake activities for the development of agriculture sector in northern Rakhine state – it’s to assist in the UEHRD’s process, General secretary of the federation said at a press conference in Yangon on Tuesday.

The activities include two parts, urgent assistance and long-term assistance for Buthidaung, Maungtaw and Yathedaung regions of the northern Rakhine state. 

Regarding with the urgent assistance, harvesters and dryers will be distributed in November, General Secretary of the federation added.

General Secretary, Myanmar Rice Federation, Ye Min Aung said “As of November, we will provide harvesters and dryers to harvest rainy season paddy in time – some paddy fields are already destroyed even because farmers and owners left their places. There are over 30,000 to 40,000 acres of rice farmlands in Buthidaung and Maungdaw townships. We will also distribute fertilizers at cheaper prices.

For long-term assistance, Agribusiness Services Center projects will be carried out. The project includes Contract Farming & Seed Production, Drying Storage & Processing, Fertilizer & Agrochemicals and Farm Mechanization Service.

General Secretary, Myanmar Rice Federation, Ye Min Aung said “The Agribusiness Services Center project will start in 2018. For that, we will do research firstly in cooperation with international organizations. So, we prioritize on rice sector – our work will also involve creating business opportunities and revealing business possibilities as well.”

Preparations are now underway to form Rakhine Agribusiness Public Co,.Ltd.
