An international level logistics hub will be built on over 59 acres of land in Hlinethaya Township, Yangon, to maintain export quality and reduce production cost, according to the Ministry of Commerce.

A memorandum of agreement on the logistics hub project to be jointly implemented by Myanmar Trade Promotion Committee under the minister and HUBS MK Co Ltd was signed on January 24 this year.

"For the project, we also have to conduct surveys. We will go according to the process. We will try to finish the project as scheduled," said Khin Maung Lwin, assistance permanent secretary of the ministry.

"More agreements will have to be signed for details. Now, the current agreement is about project launch and investment and benefit sharing," he added.

The Commerce Ministry is drawing a national export strategy in an effort to promote trade. As such, Myanmar needs international-standard logistics hubs, and one is planned to be built in Hlingthaya Township, Yangon.

According to the ministry, the construction of two dry ports in Ywathagyi, Dagon Seikkan Township, will finish by October. Those dry ports can house over 200,000 containers and reduce traffic congestion between the city centre and Thilawa port.
