Government authorities will start checking the quality of fuel and lubricating oils from September 2018 in order to distribute the right quality in the market

The government is planning to check the quality of fuel and lubricating oils every time they are imported, starting from September and  will only be allowed to distribute in the market if only they have the right quality, according to Ministry of Electricity and Energy.

Myanma Petroleum Product Enterprise (MPPE) under the ministry only took the sample  the first time to check the quality of oil and lubricants.

The MPPE will be checked the quality of oil and lubricants every time now as long as they are being imported starting from September. It said the plan for quality control is a bid to gain more trust from the customers in the market.

The import of petroleum products are US$1.306 billion from April 1 to August 3, according to Ministry of Commerce.

Fuel prices had increased to about K100 per liter in domestic market amidst the increase of international fuel prices and U.S dollar exchange rate in May, according to Myanmar Petroleum Trade Association.

Dr Win Myint, Secretary of Myanmar Fuel Oil Importers and Distributors Association said in May that they cannot predict the fuel prices.

Although international oil prices were on the decline in August, domestic oil prices are rising from seven to eight per cents in compared with the oil prices on May 18, according to fuel stations.

The fuel oil importers said the domestic oil prices had changed based on world oil prices, foreign exchange rates and transportation charges. The world oil prices are declined to over 9 per cent in compared with the oil prices on July 10. The exchange rate is increased to over ten per cent within two-month time.

Domestic oil prices on August 21 are as per following: from K955 to 970 per liter of diesel in retail market and from K940 to 950 per liter of diesel in wholesale market, from K965 to 980 per liter of premium diesel in retail market and from K950 to 960 per liter of premium diesel in wholesale market, from K920 to 940 per liter of octane 92 Ron in retail market and from K915 to 935 per liter of octane 92 Ron in wholesale market, from K965 to 985 per liter of octane 95 Ron in retail market and from K950 to 960 per liter of octane 95 Ron in wholesale market, according to Myanmar Fuel Oil Importers and Distributors Association.
