Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation inspected Yadana offshore gas field in the Andaman Sea

Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Ohn Win, and Union Minister for Electric and Energy U Win Khaing, inspected the Yadana Off Shore gas field in the Andaman Sea yesterday, and called for operating the gas field without damaging the environment.
Also, the two union ministers heard a report about distribution of gas and environmental conservation by officials of the offshore gas field project, as well as from the Managing Director of the Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise U Myo Myint Oo.
Located in the M5 and M6 blocks in the Andaman sea, the Yadana gas field is some 60km offshore from the nearest landfall in Myanmar.
Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise-MOGE of the Ministry of Electric and Energy, Total E&P Myanmar, Unocal Co Ltd and PTTEP, entered into a Production Sharing Contract to develop the field in 1992.
Production of gas from Yadana to Thailand began in 1998.

Production
The 15 wells at the field are currently producing some 700 million cubic feet per day. Out of this total output, 515 million cubic feet are being supplied to Thailand through a 216 ft long 36 inch-in-diameter pipe, while the remaining 185 million cubic feet are delivered to Myanmar.
In 2018-2019, a 4-Dimension Seismic survey was carried out in the 227.77 square feet area, while a 3-Dimension Seismic survey will be carried out in the M5 block.
On 16 November 2016, Existing Yadana Facilities Environmental management Plan-EMP was submitted by TEPM to the Ministry of National Resources and Environmental Conservation, and the ministry approved the report on 6 August, 2018.
The EIA revised report on Aung Yadana Well in the M-6 Block was submitted to the the ministry’s Environmental Conservation Department on 28 June, 2017 and Exploration Drilling in M-6.
TEPM also submitted the 2D Seismic Survey IEE (revised) report to the department on 22 May, 2018, and ECD approved the report on 10 August 2018.
The gas field project is following the requirements of the International Sewage Pollution Prevention –ISPP Certificate in disposing of its sewage and gray water.
The project has also disposed of food waste and bilge water, and discharged deck drainage, solid and hazardous waste, following international guidelines. — MNA (Translated by Kyaw Zin Lin)
