National Capacity Building Workshop on Women Entrepreneurs in Myanmar took place in Yangon to enhance understanding of the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs and possible solutions

“Strengthening Women’s Entrepreneurship in ASEAN” National Capacity Building workshop was held on Monday at Department of DME Development, Ministry of Industry in Yangon.

The Ministry of Industry in partnership with the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) organized the national workshop on Women Entrepreneur in Myanmar. 

Director General, Ministry Of Industry, Aye Aye Win said “Within the country, if we look into the working age ranged 16 to 64, women’s participation in the market is over 40%. However, the percentage which got into international market is only around 10-15%. There are too many smart women in the country; off course there is other who wants to stay simple quite life like public servant.  97%of women out there are doing small business like sewing, making handicrafts and so on. For them to become the strong women, we make this workshop.”

The objective of the workshop is to enhance understanding of the challenges that women entrepreneurs are facing and what could be a response.

Policy Analyst, OECD, Annie Norfolk Beadle said “Women tend to find it more difficult to assets financing, they tend to have more limiting networks and they tend to face lower in skill awareness and also they tend to face more impact. So, requirement women often take one great to show impossible duty which mean in often they also face more limitation in assessing development services for the opening hours and generally obtaining finance, having assist to credit history and networks.” 

Policy makers from government departments, women entrepreneurs, the representatives of the private sector and academia participated in the workshop. Experts from UNIDO and OECD moderated the discussions.
