Japan- Thailand Joint Venture negotiation with Myanmar government is still ongoing for the establishment of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant capable of generating 399 megawatts near Yangon River in southern Dala Township

YANGON, Oct. 30 -- A Japan-Thailand joint venture is negotiating with the Myanmar government over establishing a liquified natural gas (LNG) plant capable of generating 388 megawatts, the official Global New Light of Myanmar reported Tuesday.

Under the project worth of 350 million U.S. dollars, the joint venture TTCL Public Company Ltd will build a combined cycle power plant in the compound of Yangon's Ahlone Power Plant and an LNG terminal near Yangon River in southern Dala township, an official of the TTCL said.

A gas pipeline connecting to the LNG plant and 230 kilovolt new transmission line will also be built, TTCL Manager U Htet Aung Mon further said.

The 24.4-km-long LNG gas pipeline network is designed to start from LNG terminal, pass through Twantay Canal and Seikkyi Kanaungto Port and then cross the Yangon River to Ahlone plant.

According to TTCL, LNG will be imported from foreign countries and transmitted through the LNG terminal and the project will supply power to the national grid.

TTCL is seeking government approval for the project after carrying out feasibility study including environmental and social impact assessments.

Upon approval, the project is slated to start in mid-2019.
