PTTEP Myanmar requested the Ministry of Electricity and Energy to repair the Kanbauk- Myainggalay pipeline in order to receive the committed amount of gas for domestic supply

PTTEP Myanmar Asset plans to improve the MOGE Kanbauk - Myainggalay pipeline in order to deliver committed amount of 100 MMSCFD of natural gas for domestic supply.

PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited, Thailand based petroleum exploration and production company, has been requested from Ministry of Electricity and Energy to repair Kanbauk - Myainggalay pipeline in order to receive the gas proportion that Myanmar is entitled to get from the projects, Mr. Piya Sukhumpanume, General Manager of PTTEP, told media on trip to Zawtika Project, on November 6.

Around 70 million cubic feet of gas produced from Zawtika Project are sent from Kanpauk in Dawei, Tanintharyi Region to Myainggalay in Mawlamyine, Mon State upon the domestic gas sale agreement (DGSA) between PTTEP Myanmar Asset and Myanmar Oil and Gas Enterprise under the Ministry of Electricity and Energy while approximately 240 million cubic feet of gas are exported to Thailand.

According to contract, Myanmar is entitled to receive 100 million cubic feet. However, the committed volume cannot be delivered due to the pipeline’s weak condition.

“The project could take about two years and will be funded by the government. After that we will be able to send full amount as we’ve agreed. Now, we can’t send the full amount as the committed volume,’’he added.

Zawtika Project, located about 300 kilometers southwest of Yangon in the gulf of Mottama, is an important project fulfilling energy needs of Myanmar and Thailand.
