PTT Exploration and Production (PTTEP) executed an appraisal campaign in Block M9 prolong gas production to provide a sustainable energy supply for Myanmar and Thailand

To provide a sustainable energy supply for Myanmar and Thailand, PTTEP Myanmar Asset, a subsidiary of PTT Exploration and Production Public Company Limited (PTTEP) executed an appraisal campaign in Block M9. With a total of nine appraisal wells distributed over the central and northern parts of the block, the campaign has been conducting since Q3, 2018. Currently, five wells have been drilled and have successfully shown the proven potential of two commercial prospects.

Zawtika-24 well, one of the successful wells is confirmed to discover a commercially proven hydrocarbon reserve. The well was spudded on 21 January 2019 and reached at total depth at 2,030 meters to a true vertical depth on 31 January 2019. The result of the well has proven substantial with 152 meters of net gas sands, and it was greater than the expected 41 meters. With these significant outcomes, the location of the well is one of the firmed platforms for the next development campaign (Phase 1D) targeting to fulfill and prolong the Zawtika’s gas production.

PTTEP Myanmar Asset’s General Manager, Mr. Piya Sukhumpanumet said “We are pleased to announce the well appraisal results, confirming our understanding of the Zawtika project area and potential commercial prospects. The result assures PTTEP Myanmar Asset can maintain a sustainable energy supply for Myanmar. With these significant appraisal outcomes, PTTEP Myanmar Asset is continuously looking for additional resources and reserves to constantly meet energy demands for Myanmar. This discovery increases our confidence about the hydrocarbon potential of undrilled areas in the Zawtika project.”

Background Information of Zawtika Project (Block M9) Located in the Gulf of Mottama, approximately 300 kilometers Southwest of Yangon, Zawtika is one of PTTEP’s key projects in Southeast Asia. The project is significant not just in terms of its scale, but also because of the boost it will provide to domestic gas production during a time of economic growth and increasing energy demands both in Myanmar and Thailand. The project is operated by PTTEP International Limited (Yangon Branch) or PTTEPI, a company under PTTEP Myanmar Asset, holding 80% of the participating interest with its joint venture partner, Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE) holding the remaining 20%. In 2014, the project successfully supplied its first gas production to Myanmar and Thailand. Currently, the Zawtika gas field yields a production rate of approximately 300-345 million cubic feet of natural gas per day (MMSCFD). The Zawtika project is part of a unique group of large-scale offshore gas field discoveries and developments that PTTEP operates outside of Thailand. The company employs the best of modern technology to ensure that its facilities are of the highest possible standard currently available in the exploration and production industry, without compromising any aspect of safety, health or environmental protection.
