Government received more than 1,300 proposals on engaging in mining business in nine months

There have been about 1370 proposals on engaging in mining business over the past nine months, and only eight out of over 140 proposals submitted to region and state governments for their opinions have received replies, said Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Ohn Win.

The ministry started receiving proposals for mining sites in accord with the mining law and rules on August 1, 2018.

In nine months, 1,369 proposals have been received. Of those proposals, some were sent to region and state governments for their opinions.

Under the Myanmar mining rule, the Union government granted permission for large and medium scale mining. Region and state governments were allowed to scrutinize medium and small scale mining permits.

From April 2018 to March 2019, it was targeted to earn K739.086 billion from sale of minerals and gems including jade and pearl but the earnings amounted to K1,027.774 billion exceeding K288.687 billion.
