Ministry of Commerce launched three year Myanmar Services Trade Enhancement Project in Nay Pyi Taw

Ministry of Commerce launched Myanmar Services Trade Enhancement project on Tuesday. 

Officials from the World Trade Organization Enhanced Integrated Framework, Ministry of Commerce, UNCTAD, World Bank, EU and partner organizations as well as representatives from UMFCCI attended the launching ceremony in Nay Pyi Taw.

According to the Deputy Minister for Commerce, Myanmar trading industry sees great improvement but still needs more efforts not only in trading industry but also in logistics and services for the trading. To fulfill the needs, Myanmar services Trade Enhancement Project (M-STEP) has been launched for three years from June 2019 to June 2022.

Officials also said Myanmar will receive about 2.1 million USD for implementing this project from the enhanced integrated framework by the World Trade Organization. 

Deputy Director General, Ministry of Commerce, Ko Lay said “This event included talks with private sector on E-commerce development in the country – difficulties and plans – outcome will be added to the E-commerce Strategy we’re going to draw. To implement the Services Trade Enhancement project, we’d discuss establishment of a steering committee today. Actions are in full swing to strengthen the development of logistics sectors and E-commerce in Myanmar.”

The event also included the talks on current situation and potential for E-commerce in Myanmar by officials from the government side, private sector and partner organizations.
