Thailand's Bumrungrad Hospital obtains a licence to set up a subsidiary in Myanmar

Bumrungrad Hospital has obtained a licence to set up a subsidiary in Myanmar, the company announced yesterday.

The new company – Bumrungrad Myanmar – has a registered capital of US$1.33 million and will offer private clinic and diagnostic services. It was approved by the Myanmar Investment Commission (MIC) last month, the company said in a filing to the Stock Exchange of Thailand.

The subsidiary is 80 percent owned by Bumrungrad Health Network and 20pc by Yangon International Medical Services, it said.

Last July the Ministry of Health announced that foreign investors would be permitted to team up with local partners to finance private hospitals, clinics and laboratories for the first time in decades.

Investments are dependent on MIC approval.
