Myanmar Government will provide electricity to Myawaddy by end of this month

Starting from the end of this month, the government of Myanmar will provide electricity to Myawaddy Township, which has been purchasing power from Thailand.
The border township purchases power from the 22 KV Thai power grid and distributes electricity to residents using 45 public transformers and 76 private transformers.
“The national power grid reached Myawaddy in March 2019. We will replace the existing public transformers and an additional 20 transformers with 11 KV transformers,” said U Khin Maung Win, Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy.
A unit of electricity purchased from Thailand costs 4.20 baht. The price was raised to 6 baht per unit in May following reports that the government would provide electricity to the township through the national power grid, said U Sein Bo, a member of the House of Representatives.
“Myawaddy City uses over 4 million units per month at the cost of over 14 million baht, which is around K724 million,” said the MP.
The Ministry of Electricity and Energy is trying to distribute electricity while replacing old transformers as part of the National Electrification Plan (NEP) targeting 100 percent electrification by 2030.
