Ministry of Hotels and Tourism requested Union cabinet to ease of travel restrictions in Kayah in order to attract more local and foreign tourist into the state

The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism has requested that the Union cabinet ease travel restrictions in Kayah State in order to attract more local and foreign tourists into the state.
“When implementing socioeconomic development in Kayah State, creating new tourist destinations is one of the efforts. However, we need to make sure that the new destinations are not in restricted areas. Therefore, we have requested the approval from the Union cabinet to ease travel restrictions in some of the places,” Deputy Minister of Hotels and Tourism U Tin Latt told the Pyithu Hluttaw.
Previous governments imposed travel restrictions in the state in light of issues such as security, the rule of law and armed conflicts.
Under the Myanmar Tourism Law 2018, the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism is tasked with creating new destinations and attractions in collaboration with local tourism organizations, and regional tourism committees chaired by the regional or state chief minister have the responsibility to establish new destinations.
The ministry has presented to the Union cabinet its plan to transform Border Post 13 in Kayah State into an international border gate and introduce a week-long tour package. Once the plan receives cabinet approval, tourists can travel to Kayah State from Thailand.
U Tin Latt went on to say that the ministry will build Nat Mountain near Mese City into a tourist destination. In January 2018, authorities removed travel restrictions on Pan Pet Village, Tanilarle Village and some quarters in Bawlakhe, Phasaung and Mese cities.
Kayah State only receives 1.33 percent of total investment into the country and its hotels and tourism sector has the strongest potential for growth.
