Myanmar Investment Outlook: Seeking more potential for 2016

With the aim for seeking investment potential in 2016, Myanmar Investment Outlook seminar took place at UMFCCI in Yangon, Sunday.

Key topics including financial eco system, local and foreign investments, stability of foreign currency, and preparations of local companies for new investment sector in the coming year.

Deputy Minister, Ministry of Finance, H.E. Dr. MaungMaungThein: The Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) targeted to reach around 4 billion USD in 2015. We expect more investment in 2016. The stability in politics, economy, strategic market, employee strength and infrastructures are the most important things to attract foreign investors. Myanmar is qualified to these facts. The local entrepreneurs need to cooperate with foreign companies as much as they can.

Experts from Myanmar Securities Exchange Commission, Ministry of Finance and other related fields exchanged their views on the country's investment sector.

Director, Myanmar Institute Finance, Dr. TunMyat: Local investors are making efforts in SMEs and other businesses and the foreign investors are now interested to expand their markets in Myanmar. The important thing is stability of foreign currency and the development of basic infrastructures rather than before.

Assistant Business manager, Asian E-trade Consultant Co., Ltd, Hein HtetAung: Not only the skilled workers but also local and foreign investors need to enhance their knowledge in capital market by holding public seminar and talk show. The skilled labor is the main challenge in this industry and the workers should change their mind-set as well.

As Myanmar’s GDP improved to 7% in 2015, Singapore stood the first investor in Myanmar. The foreign investors are mostly interested in High-tech, hotel and agriculture industries.
