A total of 43 foreign investment businesses were given permits to operate this fiscal year as of the third week of May 2017, with investments of over 800 million USD

A total of 43 foreign investment businesses were given permits to operate from 1st April to third week of May in the current Fiscal Year 2017-2018, with investments of over US$800million.

With foreign direct investment (FDI) increasing, over US$920million of FDI has flowed into the country so far this year.

Investments of US$19.5million were allowed in the Thilawa Special Economic Zone. Twenty Myanmar Citizen enterprises with investments of US$242.849million were permitted as of the end of April this FY.
As of 30th April this FY, the oil and gas sector ranked first in foreign investment with overall investments of US$22.41 billion, followed by the power sector at the second place with investments of over US$20.5billion. The transportation and communications sector and the manufacturing sector followed, each with investments of over US$8.2billion.

The real estate sector received FDI of over US$3.7billion, while the mining sector attained over US$2.89billion so far. The hotel and tourism sector placed seventh with investments of US$2.85 billion in 68 projects.

Foreign investments are also flowing into other sectors; livestock and fisheries, agriculture, industrial estate, construction and other services. The FDI flowing into the country in the previous FY 2016-2017 hit over US$6.8billion, which exceeded expectations of US$6billion, mostly into the industrial manufacturing and transport and communication sectors. Foreign direct investment of over US$6billion is likely to flow into the country this Fiscal Year 2017-2018, according to the Directorate of Investment and Company Administration.
